Dear Melinda Staley,
Your detective work paid off and your letter reached the right man! However, I am afraid I must disappoint you.
As we lost Company sponsorship in 1950, we went on to a subscription basis to enable us to survive as a Club. This happened in 1953. As I have no record of your Grandfather, I can only assume he did not join on that basis. The potted history, enclosed, explains much and saves me a deal of one finger typing!
As we are down to a worldwide subscribing membership of about 450 you will understand there have been many changes in the last few years. We no longer exist as a Club in the sense that we have, or share, premises. We do not have the income for such a luxury. All the committee work from their homes on a voluntary basis with the aim of staying afloat as long as possible.
Thank you for the US$1.00. I have an envelope in which I save them and send them to the USA at Christmas to buy some candy for my great grandchildren. Small world. By the time it is spent, your Dollar will be well traveled. I will be in touch with Dale VanBlair shortly.
This comes with my very best wishes. I only wish I could have helped with your research.
Yours sincerely,
Roy Graham.
